Description

Pictured is the platform of the Ashhurst Railway Station, looking northward.

The station once featured numerous facilities one would expect at a railway station. These were demolished after 1980 and replaced with a very small and very simple shelter. This new shelter was removed after 2013. Today, only this grassy, barren platform remains.

Images of the old station with it's buildings can be seen in items 2014_Z5294_008488 and  2007P_Ash13_ASH_0761

The station does not serve any regular passenger service. Special heritage excursions occasionally stop here.

The Cambridge Ave railway ramp can be seen in the distance. This was constructed in the 1920/1930s to replace a dangerous railway crossing. Two railway workers' cottages exist to it's east, and the house nextdoor has a restrored NZR guardsvan in their garden.
