Description

Over 240,000 coins make up this nearly 2 meter tall penny pile- valued at over £1000 at the time. It was created to raise money to build a swimming pool at the occupation centre in Savage Crescent for the benefit of intellectually disabled children in the area. The coins came from regular patrons at the Majestic Hotel. The honour of knocking over the tower was also auctioned for charity. Mr S Newton is pictured with the tower.
