These images were taken for a story that ran in the Manawatu Evening Standard on 26 September 1970 with the caption, "This monster kiwi, weighing nearly a ton, and made of fibreglass and steel was hoisted to the roof of the PDC. Constantly revolving and floodlit by night, it will be the focal point of a neon ad [for the Kiwi Bacon Company]. There are only three others in New Zealand, in Wellington, Auckland and Hamilton."
