"Construction by Voluntary Labour" Bunnythorpe Bus Shelter
- Description
This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 29 October 1960 "Residents and farmers of the Bunnythorpe district have banded together and constructed this bus shelter. It is a concrete block and iron-roofed structure covering an area of 380 square feet, and will be in use in approximately two weeks. It includes a waiting room and bicycle shed, which is intended for the use of secondary school children. The whole structure has been built by voluntary labour assisted by the Oroua and Kairanga County Councils. It has been financed by donations together with the proceeds of a highly successful shop day. From the original public meeting from which the bus shelter committee was formed, the Bunnythorpe Progressive Association has been inaugurated. Further projects for the benefit of the district are planned for the future. "
