“Guy Fawke's - One Woman's Crusade for Safety”
- Description
-
This image was published in the November 5th, 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper with the caption: “Beverley Pentland - the fireworks lady.”
An excerpt from the article read: “Today is November 5 - Guy Fawke's time again. For many people, especially children, it's a time of enjoyment. But for Beverley Pentland ("The Fireworks Lady"), the last six years have been spent in a one-woman crusade about fireworks. And she doesn't want to ban them, as many people believe. Her quest for more safety, a restricted period in which fireworks can be sole, and an age limit to stop them being sold to children, has taken her around the country, and to Parliament. She's already been successful- now fireworks can't be sold, by law, more than a week before Guy Fawke's night.”
