This image was published in the June 4th 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper with the caption “Craig Thaine (left) Murray Lynch and Keith Neil moving some of the paraphenalia [sic] associated with live theatre into Centrepoint's new home.”
An excerpt from the article read: “Palmerston North's Centrepoint Theatre is shifting house. The theatre, known to thousands of people for the intimate atmosphere of its former George St premises, is now located in the former AMUCUM building, at the corner of Church and Pitt streets in Palmerston North. 1.30pm until
And its new home is a real home - the theatre group owns the building. The old building was leased. Members of the public will be able to inspect the new premises today, when Centrepoint holds an open day. From 1.30pm until 4.30pm, members of the public will be welcome to inspect the new theatre free of charge. This enables people to view working areas of the theatre not always open to the public, before the theatre begins functioning on June17, with ‘Twelfth Night’. Centrepoint's publicity officer, Mr Craig Thaine, told the Tribune that the theatre's home for the last four years became too cramped for stage and restaurant. Lighting was also a problem because of the cramped conditions.”
