This image was published in the June 25th 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper.
The short article read: “Ross Christensen, Post Office Savings Bank teller, pauses momentarily from operating the bank's new computerised system for the benefit of our camera. Seconds later his ‘customer’, Mrs S. Stanbra, (in the background), had completed her financial transaction. It would have taken a lot longer with the old ledger system of POSB accounts a national computer network is replacing the old system, and POSB branches should be all ‘on line’ by August 1. Thirty thousand of the 69,000 account books in the Palmerston North area were converted to the new system in the city branch's first threе days of operation.”
