This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 13 December 1960 "It is at this time of the year that the postman is busiest as the peak of the Christmas postings is reached. Shown in this photograph is the postmen's room where a number of men and women are seen preparing for the day's round aided by schoolboys employed as assistants."
