This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 16 April 1958, page 11: "Behind the scene preparation for this week's Poppy Day is seen here where voluntary workers of the R.S.A. are seen busily counting out poppies in readiness for the appeal. A total of 26,000 poppies made by disabled servicemen are ready for sale by the Palmerston North R.S.A. on Friday, Poppy Day, and tomorrow evening during a house-to-house canvas of the city area. Seen counting poppies are (left): Mr. J.E. Greenslade (convener of the Poppy Day appeal), Mr. F.W. Coombs (president for the R.S.A.), Mrs. G.E. Bauld (president of the women's section of the R.S.A.), Mrs. L. Stagpoole (the women's secretary), Mr. J.H. Orr (the R.S.A. secretary), and Mr. H. Coronno (the club manager)."
