Brief history of Berry Engineering Works

Brief history of Berry Engineering Works

Manuscript created at the time of the 1988 reunion, with a short history of the business, including photocopied advertisements and promotional materials.

Berry Engineering was established in 1907 by Mr Edwin Berry, in Main Street, as E. D. Berry General Engineer. As they grew, they moved to Ferguson Street, then to Ashley Street, and sons Frank, Zean and Edwin Jnr joined the business. They manufactured a wide variety of industrial equipment, and were particularly involved with the dairy industry over the years. They were bought by the Mauri brothers and renamed Mauri Engineering in 1977, then in the 1980s they became Protech Engineering and moved to Railway Road.
