Suspension Bridge in Flood - Mangahao Electric Power Scheme

It appears here that a flood is in progress, a large amount of wood is pushing against the suspension bridge which is nearly completely underwater. The Mangahao Power Station provides hydroelectric power and is situated near the town of Shannon. It serves Wellington, Horowhenua, Taranaki, Hawkes Bay, and the Wairarapa. After being delayed by the first world war construction began in late 1919 and the station opened in November 1924.

Private T W Preece

T W Preece, who served in World War One, was the son of George and Ada Preece, 49 Fitzherbert Avenue, Palmerston North. He enlisted in the Otago Infantry Battalion and rose to be Lance Corporal. He died 7 August 1915 at Chunuk Bair, Turkey, at 29 years of age. His name appears on the War Memorial in The Square, Palmerston North.

Wilfred and Miriam Hunt

Wilfred married Miriam Linda Mudford in 1912. They settled at Sandynook, a property that belonged to Herbert Hill Hunt (Manawatu County Councillor for 22 years, from 1910) and was located on Tompkin's Line opposite his brother Stan's farm. They had four children - Gladys, Dorothy, Linda and Wilf Jnr.
