House, corner of Amberley Avenue and Pencarrow Street

This house, built by DA and JR Donnington, was one of six in a Manawatu Master Builders and Evening Standard display of homes in Amberley Avenue, Palmerston North. DA and JR Donnington built three 'Bestbilt' homes for the display. Amberley Avenue was then a new street, with the house sites owned by Pioneer Land Company. Builders built on the sections, having to repay the section price when the house sold or after one year of possesssion of the site. The six houses were built in an 'early colonial' theme by DA and JR Bonnington, H J Spackman, Gordon Arnott Ltd and Ian Dickson Ltd. The display of furnished homes, an integrated effort between builders and architects, was officially opened on Saturday 11 November 1978 by the Minister of Housing, Mr. Holland. Adults were charged 50c to view the homes, and the income was donated to the Southland Flood Relief Apeal.
