Playing croquet from left: Annie Rawstrom; unknown; Mary Rawstrom. Annie was Richard Rawstrom's father’s first wife and Mary his half sister. They are outside the Rawstrom home, where they lived c1905-1907. Annie held several properties in her name around Palmerston North and Mary was a cashier butcher's shop of the Manawatu Meat co. Mr Rawstrom Snr owned the Manawatu Meat Co. with Fred Carter, and they were instrumental in setting up the abattoirs on Maxwell’s Line. The Manawatu Meat Co. ran the abattoirs until 1916, and both families retained share in it until 1945 when they sold out to Borthwicks.
