Jacob Nannestead, a local sawmiller, built this house in 1892, on a property that encompassed the Hokowhitu Lagoon. He sold it to J.H.P. Strang in 1903, and the house was extensively renovated twice. It is now known as Caccia Birch House and is used as function centre.
