Bunnythorpe's First Store

Bunnythorpe's First Store

The store was opened in 1890 opposite the present Hotel. Mr & Mrs Benjamin Tremewan and family are shown in the foreground. Prior to this Mr Tremewan had run the store in the public hall from 1888. After he had built the store he built a factory alongside it producing Excelsior backing powder, sauce and vinegar. The factory probably ceased operations when the store was sold to Mr P P Stevens in the early 1900s. The store was burnt down late 1928 or early 1929.
