The new Cook Street Fire Station, to be built for $1.8 million, replaced the out grown premises in Cuba Street. The Chairman of the Palmerston North Fire Board, G R Kear (left) signed on behalf of the Board and T L Ferris, Hawke’s Bay area manager of Angus Construction, signed on behalf of the successful tender. The Board accepted the tender after plans were approved by the Fire Services Commission. The Station, on the corner of Main, Church and Cook Streets was opened in 1977.
