“Whare-Ona” was built by Adam Burges of Palmerston North in 1905 and was one of Foxton Beach’s first holiday 'batches'. The Burges family, of “Huntly” in Featherston Street, regularly travelled to the beach for holidays, taking the train to Foxton, then going by horse and dray or boat down the river to the beach. Three generations of the Burges family used the beach house until it was sold in 1971.
