Huntly Private Hotel, 225 Featherston Street

Huntly Private Hotel, 225 Featherston Street

The house was built in 1911 for Adam Burges who named it after his hometown near Aberdeen in Scotland. It had 14 rooms and originally had its own plant for generating electricity. After Mrs Burges's death the house was sold and functioned as a boarding house / private hotel until 1970, when the site was converted into a used car yard. In 1984 the home was bought by Gerald and Gerda Borgonje, transported to 56 James Line in 6 sections, and rebuilt and renovated. It was the private residence of the Borgonje family until 2010. The original site in Featherston Street is now occupied by Valentines Restaurant. Huntly House was bought in 2016 by the Parsons family and subsequently relocated to Auckland in January 2017.
