King Edward VII Memorial Fountain, The Square

King Edward VII Memorial Fountain, The Square

A double photograph of the King Edward VII Memorial Fountain, often referred to as the Coronation Fountain. The monument was built to commemorate the Coronation of King Edward 7 August of 1902, but plaques were also added to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Borough of Palmerston North in 1902 and the conferring of city status on Palmerston North in 1930. It was originally sited in the middle of The Square but has been moved twice and now sits near the corner of Broadway and The Square. This view is from its original position and is looking from The Square Gardens up Rangitikei Street.
