This postcard shows the buildings on Church Street West down from the corner of Fitzherbert Avenue and the Square. It was taken sometime after the Public Library and Council Chambers (built 1878) were destroyed by a fire in August 1885 and before the two buildings between the Bank of New Zealand and the Council Chambers were destroyed by a fire in April 1891.
