Victory in Europe parade, The Square

Peace with Germany was announced 8 May 1945 and official celebrations took place in Palmerston North the following day. Church services were held at 10am, followed by general celebrations. The procession marched round The Square to the Band Rotunda

Ladies Rest Rooms, The Square

The Ladies Rest Rooms were built in The Square in 1936, on the site of the previous women's toilets opened in 1918. They are designed in the art deco style and are still in use today (2009)
