Rally Rivals Repair Response
- Description
-
These images were taken for the June 18th 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper, the first of which was published with the caption “Preperation [sic] for this weekend's Manawatu second round of the Pall Mall car rally has meant some frantic last-minute work to get some cars ready on time. Especially for local driver Tim Gibbes, whose car needed a new roof and repairs to its front suspension after a roll during the rally's Oamaru first stage. At such a time even rivals rally around to help - there panelbeater Robert Orr works late into the night to finish the repairs to Tim's car in time. In the background is his own car - which is being driven by Palmerston North best prospect for a rally win in the event so far, Brian Green. Work on the Green/Orr car, sponsored by Albert Autos, had to be put to one side while the rivals worked to get Tim's car back on the road. The Green/On car still wasn't finished on Thursday night.”
These images form part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
