This photograph shows the original Palmerston North Town Hall, prior to destruction by fire in 1885. It stood on the corner of The Square and Fitzherbert Avenue. One of the windows reads, "Manawatu Highways Office". Note the closeness of the bush line to The Square. The people are unidentified.
