"Certificate of the services in the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces of Gunner Ludolph Edwin Wynn Wes. 2/372. J Battery NZFA"

Wynn West, as he was known, only served 15 days in camp in Palmerston North before dying of pneumonia on 26 August 1914. He never served overseas but is known to be the second New Zealand casualty of World War One. He was the son of L G West, a Palmerston North Mayor and architect.
