Description: These images were taken for the September 10th 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper – the first of which was published with the caption: “Has it stopped, or hasn't it? Ewan Lambess (Wairarapa) in a spot of bother.”

The short article read: “The Manawatu-Orion Motorcycle Club's first inter-club moto cross for about 10 years was held near Aokautere. About 50 riders from the Manawatu-Orion, Central Hawke's Bay, Hawke's Bay and Napier clubs competed in the moto-cross, which was held on Walton's farm.

Conditions were wet and muddy on the undulating one-mile circuit. Although the circuit was not a demanding one, opinions about it were mixed, some riders liking it, and others disliking it. However, the results showed that the Manawatu-Orion riders seemed to be happiest - MOMCC riders filled the top four places in both legs of the competition. And Harley Campbell and Morley Shirriffs occupied first and second places respectively in both legs. Each leg of the interclub competition involved 11 laps of the circuit, taking 15 minutes each.

The club is holding a two-day junior moto cross at its Taikorea and Kellow's line circuits. About 100 riders are competing, coming from as far afield as Hawke's Bay, Wellington, and Taranaki, as well as the Manawatu. A similar event was held in February. On Saturday the event was at Taikorea, at Kellow's Line.”
