Description: "It is exactly 90 years since the Salvation Army 'opened-fire' in Palmerston North. The early day salvationists worked hard, despite opposition, to establish the work in the city. A band was formed in 1886 and a songster brigade in 1890. Since those pioneering days the Palmerston North corps has increased in strength and size and its songster brigade has for many years been acclaimed as one of the foremost vocal groups in the country. The songsters have campaigned extensively throughout New Zealand and are regularly heard in N. Z. B. C. broadcasts. This record is a souvenir of their 1974 North Island tour. Traditional songs as well as contemporary arrangements are featured but each number reflects the songsters' spirit of evangelism. We hope you enjoy listening to these new songs as much as we enjoy singing them. Leader Noel Mann, L.R.S.M., L.T.C.L. Noel Mann, who this year completes 23 years as leader of this group, is widely known as a violin virtuoso and a choral trainer.
