Beryl*, daughter of John Henry and Gertie Chapman, playing outside the home at No 77, Kairanga Road (today’s Botanical Road) of grandparents William and Jane Chapman and aunts Jessie and Aggie, during a visit from Wellington. By the end of 1921 Beryl, her parents and two brothers would be residents of Geneva, Switzerland, following her father’s appointment as a statistician to the Economic and Financial Section of the Secretariat of the League of Nations, the first New Zealander to be attached to the organisation.
