Description

This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 16th August 1989.

"Sam Manzanza has been making quite an impact over the past few months with a string of performances at Massey University and the Palmerston North College of Education, where he entertained Winterfest crowds at an international foodfair last week.

Born in Zaire, this singer/songwriter/musician moved to New Zealand in 1987 with his wife Hazel. Their son Mayele was born in Hazel's home town of Dunedin soon after. This year the family moved to Wellington.

Manzanza writes his own music, also playing guitar, bass, harmonica, flute and percussion. He's been mixing workshops on African music with his live performances throughout the country. Further performances are planned for Massey University later in the year.

[Pictured] Sam Manzanza ... his music making an impact."
