Description: These images were taken for the November 26th, 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper, the first of which was published with the caption: “Some of the young people who have been putting in long hours of painting to get the building ready in time. From left they are: Chris Harries, David Wild, David Latham, and Brendan Roach. In front of them is Karen Walsh.”

An excerpt from the article read: “Fishbowl plans to open its new building in 16 days’ time. But before the Maori Battalion Hall is declared "open" for the city's youth a lot of work will have to be done to the building. Like painting virtually the entire interior of the three-storey hall. Getting a crane to lift in the three pool tables to the top floor. Installing amusement machines, tables for table-tennis. Getting a floor resurfaced, a stereo system installed, setting up a cafeteria, buying unbreakable chairs and tables ...
The Fishbowl organisation only recently signed the lease giving it the use of the building for the next three years.”
