“Fishbowl Launching Is Only 16 Days Away”
- Description
-
These images were taken for the November 26th, 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper, the first of which was published with the caption: “Some of the young people who have been putting in long hours of painting to get the building ready in time. From left they are: Chris Harries, David Wild, David Latham, and Brendan Roach. In front of them is Karen Walsh.”
An excerpt from the article read: “Fishbowl plans to open its new building in 16 days’ time. But before the Maori Battalion Hall is declared "open" for the city's youth a lot of work will have to be done to the building. Like painting virtually the entire interior of the three-storey hall. Getting a crane to lift in the three pool tables to the top floor. Installing amusement machines, tables for table-tennis. Getting a floor resurfaced, a stereo system installed, setting up a cafeteria, buying unbreakable chairs and tables ...
The Fishbowl organisation only recently signed the lease giving it the use of the building for the next three years.”These images form part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
