“Rush Still Likes P.N.”
- Description
-
This image was published in the November 19th, 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper with the caption: “John Rush, his wife Glenda, and children Xavier (16 months), Annaleah (two) and Eugene (two). Mr and Mrs Rush have two other children, aged 11 and nine years, who are staying with friends in Auckland in the meantime.”
The short article read: “Palmerston North's public relations officer of two weeks Mr John Rush, has decided to stay on in the area. He's pictured here with his family and the house they hope to buy, at Ashhurst. Mr Rush, who abruptly resigned from the post of city PRO because he found he was not suited to the job and its financial arrangements, now says he's looking for another job in the Palmerston North area. He's also looking at business opportunities - he had his own tree surgery business in Auckland before taking on the PRO job.
Meanwhile the PRO office now has a manager to take care of things until next year, when a new PRO is expected to be appointed. He is Mr George Edmonds, 66, president of the Manawatu Rugby Union and a former district labour officer in Blenhiem and Masterton. He was also a former assistant district labour officer in Hastings. He says he's lived in Palmerston North all his life, except when he was working in those posts. He said he's only the PRO office manager, and will not be making any executive decisions.”
