Last Day at Foxton Railway Goods Office
- Description
This photograph was taken in front of the old Foxton Station, which was moved up to Palmerston North and placed alongside the Goods Office to function as an Outwards Goods Office. The Foxton line to Palmerston North began in 1871 as a wooden tramway, progressing to a steel railway line in 1876. It gradually declined after the Wellington to Palmerston North line bypassed the town in 1908, and closed at the end of the 1950s. From left, front row: Cliff Hanley (storeman); Flo Walker (office, partner of Neil Angus?); Len Cowling; Dick Dickson (office clerk); Kerry O'Leary; Moiya Zentveld (office clerk); Gill Goodhue (goods supervisor). Back row: Felix Lucas (clerk); Cecil Ryan (clerk); Paddy Condon; Bert McKnight; Doug Stitchbury (clerk); Tom Jones (clerk in goods shed).
