Mrs Ethel Maud Field, née Bryant (1882-1966) "earned the respect and affection of people in many parts of New Zealand through her tired voluntary work for many community, provincial and national organisations over many years. At the age of 16 she became a teacher cadet at Fitzherbert East School, after attending as a pupil for six years. After marrying Walter Field, she continued to live in the district, raising a family of five children."
