Hopwood Hardware Co Ltd (Hopwoods) was established on Main Street in 1916. In 1962 it annexed the former offices of the Manawatu Times, which backed onto the property, and the building was expanded through into Broadway, with entrances off both streets. The enlarged Hopwoods was opened on 11 October 1962. These photographs probably date from this time. Hopwoods moved out of this building in 1989, to make way for the Downtown complex, and the building was demolished.
