“Won’t Anyone Help This Family?”
- Description
-
These images were taken for the July 30th, 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper – the first of which was published with the caption ‘Fay Tidy and Danny.’
An excerpt from the article reads: “Danny can’t walk, can’t talk, can’t feed himself, can’t even sit up unaided. He's 17 months old - and it's likely his parents will have to care for him for the rest of his life. If he ever walks, it’ll be ‘a fluke’. Danny, who’s 17 months old, has cerebral palsy, something any baby can get at the moment of birth. His parents, Mr and Mrs G. Tidy have been trying to get a state house for their divided family for almost two years. They now have a two-bedroomed flat, not big enough for their four children.”
These images form part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
