“Margaret Jones could be holding a small fortune in her hands, if this little cavy is any example. While our photographer tried to get two furry little bundles to pose for a picture, they had other thoughts on their mind….. And Mrs Jones hobby could prove profitable, as her caveys are pedigrees. Caveys can breed at a prodigious rate, as everyone familiar [sic] with ‘guinea pigs’ knows. They can breed when they're one month old, and within six hours of the litter's arrival are ready to breed again. They average three baby caveys a litter. Mrs Jones said pedigree caveys should be prevented from breeding until they're at least five months old - Hansel is only two month's old. The reason for preventing them from breeding is that they will lose condition before next weekend's show if they get in the 'family way' too soon.”
