“P.N. Well Placed in N.Z.’s Future, Says Minister”
- Description
-
These images were taken for the August 27th 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper – the first of which was published with the caption: “Mr Adams-Schneider (left) checks out a truck being built at Motor Truck Distributors' Palmerston North factory while Mr Lithgow talks to a man working on the vehicle, Mr Kevin Withers.”
An excerpt from the article read: “By the year 2000, half of New Zealand's overseas funds will be generated by manufactured goods - and Palmerston North is "right in the centre of that", the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Adams-Schneider, said last week. He was making his first visit to the city during his current term of office. He was accompanied on his tour of the city's businesses by the Member for Palmerston North, Mr J. Lithgow. Mr Adams-Schneider said about 75 percent of the country's overseas funds were now generated by agricultural products, but increasing emphasis on the importance of the manufacturing industry would alter that. He added that export year is proving successful, with about 2000 firms giving their support of it. He said he had never seen so much export-consciousness in New Zealand.”
These images form part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
