Group photo of members of William Chapman’s family and his wife Jane’s relations. William Chapman (top left, with beard) owned the 71-acre farm that stood in the north-western corner of Palmerston North. His wife Jane (nee Bowden) is seated in front of him; to his left is elder daughter Jessie; second daughter Aggie is second from right in the picture, next to younger son Will; youngest daughter Louie is bottom right. Others present are James Galland, top (appointed head teacher at Newbury State School at about this time), his wife Bella (a younger sister of Jane Chapman) on the left of the picture; between the two girls, centre, is Liza (Jane Chapman’s youngest sister), wife of Archie Graham, pharmacist in PN and later to become the town’s mayor, and front left, the Grahams’ daughter Vera. Location is uncertain.
