“Christmas Capers”
- Description
-
These images were taken for the December 17th, 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper, the first of which was published with the caption: “Children taking part in the performance throw up their hands in jubilation - or is it fear? - at the sight of King Nebuchadnezzar's idol. The play was set in Biblical times.”
The short article read: “Two hundred children from the Colyton area converged on the Colyton hall last week to see 84 children from the Colyton School perform their Christmas play "It's Cool in the Furnace". And the next day the school children performed their play again, for the Colyton township. Attending the first performance were pupils from the Taonui, Te Arakura, Hiwinui, Newbury, Bunnythorpe, and Whakarongo schools, as well as children from St Dominics School for the Deaf. The music score was provided by Buryl Red, adn [sic] the book and lyrics were by Grace Hawthorne.”
These images form part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
