On her feet she wore blue satin shoes and carried a blue and pink bouquet. This outfit was worn to the Wanganui Collegiate School Old Boys Ball in Wanganui, on the 6 April 1931. Charles John Monro, born 5 April 1851 in Nelson, was the 4th son of Dr (later Sir) David Monro, the 2nd speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives 1861-70. He married Miss Helena Beatrice MacDonald in 1885 at Nelson and three years later came to the Manawatu District. They built a home in Fitzherbert West, called 'Craiglockhart' (after a family estate near Edinburgh), where they raised their family of 3 sons and 2 daughters. The house and land is now owned by Massey University. Charles Monro was one of the men responsible for introducing rugby football to New Zealand in 1870 at Nelson.
