"Camping in Grounds" - Barracks Week

Description

This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 14 February 1958, page 5: "These tents are at present housing 45 pupils of the Freyberg High School during their "barracks week." The tents are pitched in between two classrooms, which gives the boys ample shelter from the weather. It is believed that the Freyberg High School is the first secondary school in Palmerston North to go under canvas for cadet training."
