“Marist Bursts Away Tо А Ludeman Cup Victory”
- Description
-
These images were taken for the Evening Standard, the first of which was published on the 21st of April 1975 with the caption “Malcolm Nell, the Marist prop, is too late to stop Feilding half-back Les Barnett from getting his pass away during the Ludeman Cup rugby league final on Saturday.”
An excerpt from the accompanying article read: “Marist won the Ludeman Cup for 1975 when 1it beat Feilding 34-13 in an exciting final on Saturday.
A crowd of about 200 watched the games in glorious sunshine at Memorial Park. The ground was hard and fast, and there was very little grass to cushion contact.
Marist set the scene for a real cup atmosphere when it was led out by it's [sic] gold and green lion mascot. But this ferocity didn't seem to deter Feilding, which showed it was keyed up to play one out of the box.”
