Military parade at Ohakea
- Description
-
These images were taken for the Tribune weekly newspaper but may not have been published as no article was identified. The negatives had no accompanying information beyond the year ‘1978’.
They depict a military parade at Ohakea air base. Although the images appear not to have been published in the Tribune, similar images were published in the Evening Standard, including one which was captioned: “A ‘TRIPLE occasion’ parade was held at Ohakea air base yesterday afternoon. Seven graduates from the RNZAF air crew course received their wings, and six airmen received good conduct and long service medals. In addition it was the last formal occasion Air Commodore M. F. Gunton would attend at Ohakea. The officer commanding the operations group retires from the service on November 2. The seven graduates have each completed a nine-month intensive course to become pilots. During the course they learnt everything from navigation, aerodynamics, and thermodynamics, to military and political history. The six recipients of good conduct and long service awards have all completed 18 years exemplary service to the airforce. Pictured is Air Commodore Gunton inspecting his last guard of honour at Ohakea.”
These images form part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
