"Relic of Ancient Times" - Found During Road Works

This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 03 March 1958, page 10: "Working four feet below the level of the road on the intersection of Fitzherbert Avenue and Park Road, modern equipment is bring to light relics of the very early days in Palmerston North. Here a front end loader uncovers timbers, still in an excellent state of preservation, from the bridge which crossed a stream."
