This image was taken for the June 18th 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper, and was published with the caption “MR TERRY ALEXANDER”
An excerpt from the article read: “Motorcyclists have formed an action group to press politicians for a better deal for motor-cycling in New Zealand. It's the first time that the bikers have had national representation, and Palmerston North man Mг Terry Alexander has been elected to represent the local area on the action group. Hе is now calling on motorcyclists for support, and wants to hear their problems and suggested solutions to them so that the national body can take them up. He also hopes to get problems of a more "local" nature solved like the danger presented to bikers at certain city intersections. Ultimately a Palmerston North action group will be formed, with representation on the group's national body, at Wellington. The national action group was formed in Wellington on Queen's Birthday weekend, when motorcyclists from all over the country converged on Parliament. Parliament. The rally was a follow up to the series of huge protest rallies held at the beginning of May. The protests, involving thousands of motorcyclists and their machines, were held to protest at the Government's intentions to impose big increases on motorcycle registration fees. After the protests, the fees were not increased by the big amounts that had been feared. But the motorcyclists are still unhappy with the way they're being treated, and that was the reason for the formation of the action group, Mг Alexander said.”
