This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 07 March 1961 "Getting the feel of the .22 rifles they will later shoot with in the Imperial Challenge Shield competition are pupils from the Palmerston North Boys' High School. The competition is held annually throughout the Commonwealth for secondary school pupils with awards such as the King George V trophy, shields, swords and awards. Fifty percent of the targets shot in New Zealand each year are sent to England for judging, the minimum number being 4000. Army n.c.o's from the area headquarters in Main Street conducted the shoot today. The shooters are P. Miller an W. Pickett, and the Army personnel are Staff-Sergeant H. White, Corporal N.P. Wadesworth and Corporal G.R. Hawker."
