The caption on the reverse reads: "Looking across the beautiful gardens in the Square towards the busiest pedestrian crossing in Palmerston North. The uniquely shaped C.M.L building with its large array of many shops underneath."

The CML 6-storey office building replaced the former CML building (built as the Clarendon Hotel) on the same site. The building now houses 'The Hub' accommodation block, with shops at ground level.
