The business of Adam Burges, situated on the corner of Queen and Rangitikei Streets, was established in 1892 and carried on by him until his death in 1918. His sons Duncan and Alan then ran the business until 1942 when they closed down and sold the property to Government Life Insurance, Smith and Smith, The Commercial Bank and others.
