Description

The Reverend James Duncan came to Foxton from Wanganui as a missionary in 1848. In the late 1850s he resigned his position as a missionary and became employed as a Minister in the district. He is credited with being the founder of Foxton, which originally grew up as a white settlement around a Maori pa. Duncan became Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand and died 13 December 1907.
