Peter Cullinane was born in Dannevirke and was ordained priest in 1961. He was ordained New Zealand’s 7th Roman Catholic Bishop by the Metropolitan of New Zealand, Archbishop Thomas Williams of Wellington. Bishop Cullinane headed the Central North Island Diocese which was formerly part of the Wellington Diocese.
