Alfred and Mary Allen

Alfred Allen (1855-1935, b. in Wellington) was a carpenter and farmer in the Wairarapa and came to Kelvin Grove as a farmer during 1880s. He later moved to Terrace Street (now Ruahine Street). He was later a builder in Palmerston North until his retirement in 1914. His father was George Allen who arrived in Wellington in 1841 and was a pioneer boat builder in that city (see Cyclopedia of New Zealand, Volume 1, 1897, pp 288-289). Mary Anne Allen (nee Kempton) grandparents were early settlers in Greytown, Wairarapa. Alfred and Mary had seven children.
